LIMA, Peru, AUG. 26, 2010 (Zenit.org).- A second international conference is set to begin next week in Lima on the Shroud of Turin, the cloth believed to have enwrapped Christ in the tomb.
From Tuesday to Sept. 2, the University of Lima will host the conference, sponsored by the archdiocese and other academic institutions.
The first international conference of this type was held in 2005 and gathered some 1,200 people.
This year, conference contributors will draw from the enthusiasm for the Shroud that resulted from its extraordinary exposition last April and May. Benedict XVI was among the pilgrims who visited the Shroud during that event.
In addition to the academic conference, there will be a thematic exhibition on the Holy Shroud, which will include a presentation of history and research on the cloth, as well as theories on how Christ’s image was formed on the linen.
There will also be a life-size digital reproduction of the cloth.
