Bishop Donald Trautman of Erie asked the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to name a replacement for his role as moderator of the association. The group includes financial leaders of dioceses in the United States and Canada.

Bishop Farrell will assume his duties Sept. 29.

“It has been an honor and privilege to see firsthand the work of faith filled professionals strengthening the Church in fiscal management,” said Bishop Trautman in a message to the members.

Bishop Farrell is also the chairman of the USCCB Committee on National Collections.

The association is linked to the USCCB both through the moderator and through diocesan bishops.

It supports information exchange, provides professional education opportunities, and promotes both the spiritual development and professional relationships of its members in matters of fiscal and administrative expertise in service to the local and national Church.
