Illinois Native Named to Bismarck, North Dakota

BISMARCK, North Dakota, OCT. 19, 2011 (Zenit.org).- Monsignor David Kagan of Rockford, Illinois, is the new bishop of Bismarck, North Dakota.

The Vatican announced today the appointment of Bishop-elect Kagan, 61. He succeeds Bishop Paul Zipfel who resigned for reasons of age.

David Kagan was born in 1949 in Illinois, and ordained a priest of the Diocese of Rockfort in 1975.

The Diocese of Bismarck has about 65,000 Catholics served by nearly 100 priests and 150 religious.
