According to Vatican Radio, Parliament passed an act designating the date of April 2nd each year as Pope John Paul II Day.

April 2nd is the day the late Pope died. This year marks the 10th anniversary of his passing.

The bill, which passed by both houses of parliament, also recognizes Saint John Paul II as a champion of human dignity and freedom.

In April, Blessed Pope John Paul II was made a canonized saint, along with John XXIII.
