As ISIS continues to assert its power and persecute Christians and religious minorities in the Middle East, Jordan continues to welcome refugees and collaborate to ensure their best interests.
Aimed at discussing the conditions facing displaced Iraqi Christians and those residing in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan since August 2014, the Apostolic Nunciature in the Jordanian capital of Amman, in cooperation with Caritas Jordan, held a conference, reported Abouna.org.
In addition to discussing the future of those Iraqis who were displaced because of their faith, the conference spoke on the activities of Caritas and charity organizations.
Apostolic Nuncio to Jordan and Iraqi Archbishop Giorgio Lingua, Jordan Caritas Director Wael Suleiman, and representatives from the US embassy took part in the conference, along with other representatives from charitable organizations that support the charities Iraqis in Jordan, UNICEF, and UN offices.
Also present were a number of displaced Iraqis living in Jordan and priests in charge of centers that provide safe havens for Iraqis.
The conference began with observing a minute of silence and prayer for the soul of Muaz Kasasbeh, the young Jordanian pilot who was immolated by Islamic State extremists and for victims of the world’s wars, conflicts and natural disasters.
There was also a special prayer for the spirit of late Sister Carmela, sister of Archbishop Maroun Lahham, the Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
