Pope Francis on Tuesday appointed Bishop Matteo Maria Zuppi, auxiliary of Rome, as metropolitan archbishop of Bologna, Italy.
The bishop succeeds Cardinal Carlo Caffarra, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same archdiocese upon reaching the age limit was accepted by the Holy Father.
The Pontiff also appointed Monsignor Corrado Lorefice as metropolitan archbishop of Palermo, Italy. He succeeds Cardinal Paolo Romeo, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same archdiocese upon reaching the age limit was accepted by the Holy Father.
Finally, the Pope appointed Monsignor Giacomo Morandi, vicar general of the archdiocese of Modena-Nonantola, Italy, as under-secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
