The Eucharist must be the food of the family, said the Pope to newlyweds, whom he greeted during the General Audience of May 17, 2017.
At the end of the meeting in St. Peter’s Square, the Holy Father addressed – as he does every Wednesday – young people, the sick and newlyweds.
“Today we celebrate the liturgical memorial of Saint Paschal Baylon, Patron of the Eucharistic Associations,” he said. A Spanish Franciscan, Paschal Baylon (1540-1592) had great devotion to the Eucharist and spent much time in prayer before the Most Blessed Sacrament.
“May his love for the Eucharist teach you, dear young people, the importance of faith in the real presence of Jesus,” said the Pontiff.
“May the Eucharistic bread sustain you, dear sick, to face the test with serenity, and may it be your food, dear newlyweds, for the human and spiritual growth of your new family.”
