Discussed ‘Migrants and Prospects for the Future of the European Project’

Pope Francis received in audience the President of the Republic of Latvia, Raimonds Vējonis, this morning.
According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office, the discussions were cordial, and highlighted the good existing relations between the Holy See and Latvia.
«Attention then turned to themes of common interest,» the statement noted, «such as the acceptance of migrants and the prospects for the future of the European project, focusing on the regional context.»
After meeting with the Pope, the President of Latvia met with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
