Let’s continue our commitment to witnessing Jesus…
Pope Francis’ desire was expressed in a telegram, signed by Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, on the Pope’s behalf, to the Methodist and Waldensian (Valdese) churches yesterday on occasion of their annual Synod in Italy this week.
In the telegram, the Pontiff expressed his spiritual closeness to the participants and his greetings.
The Holy Father assured them of his prayers, that they «will be able to have a living experience of the Holy Spirit, who animates and gives force to Christian witness.»
The Holy Father prayed to the Lord «for the consolidation of the ecumenical spirit among Christians, as well as for a growing communion between our Churches.»
«We are called,» the Holy Father said, «to continue our commitment in the way of mutual knowledge, understanding and collaboration, to witness Jesus and His Gospel of charity.»
«As Christ’s disciples,» Francis encouraged, «we can offer common answers to the sufferings that afflict so many people, especially the poorest and weakest, thus promoting justice and peace.»
Pope Francis concluded, expressing to their Synod his best wishes and, invoking the Lord’s blessing, he asked them to pray for him.
