Dear Ladies
Maria Luisa and Angela Silvestrini
I learnt the news of the departure of Cardinal Achille Silvestrini, and I wish to express my profound sympathy to his relatives and to all those that knew and esteemed him, as well as to the Diocesan Community of Faenza-Modigliana, which counts him among its most illustrious sons. I recall with a grateful spirit the collaboration he gave for so many decades to the Holy See, at the service of a good seven Pontiffs: first in the Secretariat of State, then as Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, finally as Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches. He leaves the memory of a life spent in adherence to his vocation as priest, attentive to the needs of others, able and compliant diplomat, faithful Pastor to the Gospel and to the Church. I raise intercessory prayers so that the Lord may receive him in eternal joy and peace, and I send to all those that share grief over his death the comforting Apostolic Blessing.
Franciscus PP
