Resignation of bishop of Saint-Jean- Longueuil, Canada, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Saint-Jean- Longueuil, Canada, presented by Bishop Lionel Gendron, P.S.S.

The Pope has appointed Bishop Claude Hamelin, titular of Apollonia and auxiliary of Saint-Jean- Longueuil, as bishop of the same diocese.

Bishop Claude Hamelin was born on July 10, 1951, in Sherrington, diocese of Saint-Jean- Longueuil. He entered the major seminary of Montréal where he attended courses in philosophy and theology. In the years 1980 to 1982, he studied moral theology at the Alphonsian Pontifical Academy in Rome, obtaining a licentiate.

He was ordained a priest on December 3, 1977, for the same diocese.

Until 1990 he exercised his priestly ministry in the pastoral care of schools, teaching in some public schools and some private colleges, and he collaborated on Sundays in various parishes. From the year 1989 to 1990 he was parish administrator of Saint-Mathieu. From 1990 to 2000, he was a parish priest of Saint-Marc of Candiac. From 2000 to 2010 he was episcopal vicar for various pastoral regions of the diocese and head of the diocesan office for the clergy.

From 2010 to 2016 he was vicar general of the diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil and moderator of the diocesan curia.

On December 22, 2015, he was appointed as auxiliary bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil and was consecrated on 18 March 2016.

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Mar del Plata, Argentina

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of Mar del Plata, Argentina, the Reverend Father Dario Rubén Quintana, O.A.R., parish priest of the Nuestra Señora de Luján in the diocese of San Martín and prior of the seminary San Ezequiel Moreno of the Order of the Augustinian Recollects, assigning him the titular see of Bavagaliana.

The Reverend Father Dario Rubén Quintana, O.A.R., was born in Buenos Aires on 4 February 1971. He was ordained a priest on May 17, 1997, and incardinated in the Augustinian Recollects.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar, vocational guide of the Order of Augustinian Recollects, rector of the San José College in the diocese of San Martín, member of the Synodal animation group for the Archdiocesan Synod of Buenos Aires, and prior and parish priest of various parishes in the dioceses of Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata.

He is currently parish priest of the Nuestra Señora de Luján parish in San Martín and prior of the San Ezequiel Moreno seminary of his Order.
