Pope Francis on February 9, 2020, renewed his plea for the half of human trafficking, his remarks coming after praying the Angelus with the crowds gathered in St. Peter’s Square.
«Observed yesterday, in the liturgical memorial of Saint Josephine Bakhita, was the World Day of Prayer and Reflection against Human Trafficking,» the Holy Father said. «To heal this plague — because it’s a real plague that exploits the weakest! –, the commitment of all is necessary: institutions, Associations, and educational agencies. On the prevention front, I want to point out how diverse researches attest that criminal organizations always use increasingly modern means of communication to lure victims with deceit. Therefore, it’s necessary, on one hand, to educate in a healthy use of technological means and, on the other, to watch and recall furnishers of such telematics services to their responsibility.»
