On Thursday morning, Pope Francis met with Chiara Porro, the new Australian Ambassador to the Holy See as she presented her Letters of Credentials to the Holy Father.
Born on July 30, 1984, the new Australian Ambassador, married with two children, has had an extensive diplomatic career, including appointments in Africa and India.
Ambassador Porro graduated in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at University of York, Great Britain in 2005 and a Masters in International and Diplomatic Relations from the University of Leiden, Netherlands, in 2007.
According to a biography provided by the Vatican, she held the following positions: Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MAE) (2009); Second Secretary, High Commission, India (2011-2014); Executive Officer for East and Central Africa, MAE (2014); Executive Officer, Ebola Taskforce, MAE (2014-2015); Deputy Director, Budget and Financial Resources Planning Section, MAE (2015-2016); Councilor, International Section, Cabinet of the Prime Minister (2016-2018); Vice Consul General at the Consulate General in Nouméa, New Caledonia (2018-2020); Director, Ministerial Liaison Section, MAE (2020).
