The Catholic Bishops of England and Wales are saddened by the record abortion figures recently released, they said on September 16, 2020.

The Department for Health and Social Care’s figures show that 109,836 abortions were performed for English and Welsh residents in the six months from January 1– June 30, 2020.

This is an increase of over 4,000 over the same period last year.

A spokesperson said:

“We mark the tragic loss of the lives of so many unborn babies with deep sadness and regret. It is hugely disappointing that so many mothers felt that they could not continue with their pregnancies, and we look forward to a time when women are given the genuine support they need to have children no matter what their circumstances.”
