Responding to journalists’ questions on October 12, the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, stated the following:

“In the course of the weekend, some positive cases of COVID-19 were found among the Swiss Guards. At present, it affects four persons with symptoms, all placed in isolation. The necessary verifications are proceeding in these hours among all those that could have been in direct contact with them. In the meantime, in keeping with dispositions issued last week by the Governorate of Vatican City State, all Guards, whether or not in service, must wear masks, inside and outside, and observe the prescribed sanitary measures.

“The four Guards are added to the other three positive cases verified in the last weeks among residents and citizens of the State, all with mild symptoms and observing all the necessary measures of isolation in their own room and verification of the persons involved.”
