ZENIT News / Washington, 04.12.2023).- In the next two years, the Holy Father Francis will change 34 Bishops of one of the 194 dioceses in the United States. This will happen because the Bishops will have reached the age limit, which the code of Canon Law allows them to head a diocese, having to tender their resignation at 75, eleven years younger than the age of the present Pontiff.

Among the dioceses whose Bishop will change are New York, Chicago, Houston, New Orleans, Detroit, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Hartford, Omaha and Mobile. Out of a total of 32, 13 are Archdioceses and 21 are Dioceses.

With these foreseeable changes, in 12 years Pope Francis will have replaced the configuration of the American Episcopate, having placed as Bishops 64% of the Episcopate, in other words, three-quarters of it.
