(ZENIT News / Varese, 20.08.2023).- On Friday morning, August 18, the funeral was held in the church of Sant’Ilario in Marnate, in the Italian province of Varese, of Luca Re Sartù, 24, who died from a bacterium, a few days after returning from the World Youth Day in Lisbon.

Present at the Funeral Mass, presided over by one of the Auxiliary Bishops of Milan, Monsignor Luca Raimondi, were other young men who went with Luca to Lisbon. In fact, they wore the World Youth Day shirts. The considerable presence of people, including Civil Authorities, was a consolation for the family of the deceased young man.

It was in that context that it was learnt that Pope Francis made a personal telephone call to young Luca’s mother, who revealed it to the Bishop who presided over the Mass. She shared that the call made an impression on her because of the detail of closeness it implied.
