(ZENIT News / Vatican City, 09.28.2023).- On the morning of Thursday, September 28, the Pope received in audience the Prime Minister of the Republic of Portugal, António Luís Santos da Costa, who later met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, accompanied by Monsignor Paul Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

During the cordial discussions at the Secretariat of State, they appreciated the effective collaboration in the organization of World Youth Day and the visit of His Holiness to Portugal from August 2 to 6, 2023. Subsequently, they addressed the positive contribution of the Church to Portuguese society in the current sociopolitical context and some issues of common interest.

As the discussions continued, there was an exchange of views on the international situation, with special attention to the consequences of the war in Ukraine and the phenomenon of migration.
