On August 5, 2019, the 39th Warsaw Academic Metropolitan Pilgrimage set out from Warsaw for Jasna Gora. The pilgrimage consists of 20 groups, according to the Polish Bishops’ Conference.
The pilgrimage started with the Holy Mass in St. Anne’s Church which was presided by Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz, Metropolitan of Warsaw. The motto of the pilgrimage is: «Open the door to Christ”.
Cardinal Nycz at the beginning of the homily reminded that the motto of this year’s pilgrimage are the words of St. John Paul II, which he spoke at the beginning of his pontificate. The Metropolitan of Warsaw underlined that, as today, forty years ago humanity struggled with various problems because „the world was closing itself more and more to Christ.” And in this context, one should look at the words of Cardinal Wojtyla, who described himself as Pope „from a distant country”.
