Inspired by Padre Pio who said that «the world would change if one million children prayed the rosary,» the Venezuelan National Council of the Laity has announced that it hopes to organize that many children to pray the rosary together on Oct. 18.

The objective of the initiative, supported by the Venezuelan bishops’ conference, is to educate children in the need to pray for peace and unity in one’s self, the family, the country and the world, said the council.

«The rosary has been proposed many times by popes as a prayer for peace,» the organizers said in a statement. «John Paul II said: ‘Today I want to entrust to the efficacy of this prayer the cause of peace in the world and that of the family.'»

The day of prayer will be observed in schools, classrooms, patios and chapels, beginning at 9 a.m. Children in hospitals, parishes, day care centers, and other institutions, will also be encouraged to pray.
