Sessions of the Pope’s Council of Cardinals Conclude: these were the topics covered

The role of women, synodal paths and evangelization were the three topics addressed at the first session of the Council of Cardinals in January 2024, in the presence of the Pope.

(ZENIT News / Vatican City, 02.07.2024).- On the afternoons of February 5th, 6th, and 7th, a session of the Council of Cardinals was held at the Casa Santa Marta. The Cardinals who comprise the Council, along with the Secretary of the Council, participated with the Pope.

Following a reflection on the morning of February 5th regarding the role of women in the Church, with contributions from Sister Linda Pocher, Daughter of Mary Help of Christians and professor of Christology and Mariology at the Pontifical Faculty of Educational Sciences Auxilium in Rome; Giuliva Di Berardino, consecrated member of the Ordo Virginum, from the Diocese of Verona, professor and responsible for spirituality courses and spiritual exercises; and Doctor miss Jo Bailey Wells, «bishop» of the Church of England and Deputy Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, the debate continued in the afternoon on the current synodal pathways, particularly that of the universal Church.

The agenda for February 6th focused on the theme of evangelization, accompanied by reports from the Pro-Prefects of the Dicastery for the Evangelization, Monsignor Salvatore Fisichella and Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle.

The afternoon of February 7th allowed for further exploration of the topics discussed during the session, in the presence of the Holy Father. The next meeting of the Council will be held in April 2024.
