Sudanese Bombers Kill 6 in Civilian Area

ROME, SEPT. 10, 2001 (Zenit.org).- Sudanese government planes dropped 24 bombs on the eastern Equatoria region, killing six people, including three children, the Catholic Information Service for Africa reported.

There were also a number of injured in the attack last Monday. A Catholic church and several homes in the Diocese of Torit were also destroyed.

The attack had no strategic justification. Representatives of the Catholic Church, as well as humanitarian aid agents, said that only civilians live in the area.

Sudan´s 18-year civil war has already claimed 2 million lives and displaced millions of people.
