Benedict XVI named Father Joseph Spiteri, 49, as the nuncio to the Asian island nation, the Vatican announced Saturday. Father Spiteri had been serving in the section of relations with states at the Vatican secretariat.
Joseph Spiteri was born in Malta in 1959 and ordained a priest in 1984.
He began work in the Vatican diplomatic service in 1988, serving in the pontifical representations of Panama, Iraq, Mexico, Portugal, Greece and Venezuela.
