Pope Francis expressed his profound condolences to the families of the victims of the collapse of a four-storey building at Torre Annunziata, near Naples, Italy, around 6:30 am on Friday, July 7, 2017.
Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, communicated the Pope’s message, dated July 8, to the Archbishop of Naples, Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe. The message is published on the diocese’s Website. Two children were among the eight victims.
The Holy Father requested the Cardinal to assure the families of his “fervent prayers for those who died tragically.”
Pope Francis invoked “God’s mercy” for “the consolation of the wounded and for those suffering from the loss of a dear one,” and imparted his Apostolic Blessing “as sign of his closeness.”
