The meeting, held May 4-6 in Nairobi, was sponsored by Norwegian Church Aid. The objective is to prepare the ground for the countries´ two political leaders to sit at the negotiating table and come to an agreement for an end to hostilities, according to the chairman of the Interreligious Emergency Committee, Abba Stefanos Tedla.
Abba Stefanos told the CISA news agency that the nations´ political leaders took a step forward last June when they signed an agreement in Algiers, resulting in the opening of the peace process.
The latest meeting was composed of 10 leaders from each country, drawn from the Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths, Abba Stefanos said. The five previous meetings were held in Norway, Germany and the United States.
