According to the Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, the gesture of Cardinal Konrad is intended to “attract attention on a real problem,” he said to ANSA Agency.
Pope Francis’ Almoner, in fact, removed the seals of the meters of a building in Rome, occupied by families — around 500 people 98 of whom are children –, to whom neighbors brought candles for them to have light.
Cardinal Parolin invites to go beyond the controversy to identify “a problem that concerns persons, children, and elderly people.”
“I’ve seen that there have been many interpretations and controversies. Personally, I think that one should try to understand the meaning of this gesture, which consists in attracting everyone’s attention on a real problem, which concerns persons, children, and elderly people.”
Cardinal Krajewski himself explained his gesture: “I reactivated the light for the survival of families and children.”
Caritas-Italy fights daily against poverty with the mission to help the weakest, reminded its Director, Monsignor Francesco Soddu, on Vatican Radio.
