VATICAN CITY, OCT. 5, 2000 (ZENIT.org).- A unique congress will be held
Oct. 9-11 in the Pontifical Academy for Life: Its speakers and audience
will all be bishops.
The congress is being organized by the Regina Apostolorum Athenaeum in
Rome, a university institution directed by the Legionaries of Christ, and
by the Vatican Congregation for Bishops, presided over by recently
appointed Archbishop Giovanni Battista Re.
A press conference on the congress, planned for Tuesday, will be attended
by Bishop Francesco Monterisi, secretary of the Congregation for Bishops;
Archbishop Ivan Dias of Bombay, India; Father Thomas Williams, professor of
moral theology at Regina Apostolorum, and Father Caesar Atuire, coordinator
of the meeting and director of the magazine Sacerdos.
The congress will be attended by more than 200 bishops, who will come to
Rome for the Jubilee of Bishops this weekend. The topic will be “Bishops,
Witnesses and Servants of Hope.”
general Synod of Bishops, scheduled for 2001, which will be dedicated to
the figure and mission of the bishop in the Church and the world.
