In an era in which mothers are stretched like never before, one Toronto-based group is on a mission to revive the vocation of motherhood.
The Dynamic Women Association of Ontario (DWAO), a faith partner of the Archdiocese of Toronto, seeks to remind women of the significance of their role as Catholic mothers by providing practical guidance to help them thrive in their busy lives through a ministry: CatholicMomsGroup.com.
Catholic Mothers Groups are parish-based and geared toward helping Catholic moms navigate the ups-and-downs of daily life while still keeping Christ at the center. These groups of ladies gather to pray, bond, share parenting tips, learn about their faith and delve into what it means to be a Catholic mom. To date, DWAO has helped over 40 parishes start Catholic Mothers Groups in the Toronto area and even in other parts of Canada and the United States.
DWAO also offers a magazine-style periodical called One Mother’s Heart: How to Start a Mothers Group, written by Dorothy Pilarski and a team of writers, which gracefully outlines how to successfully start a Catholic Mothers Group.
“Dorothy’s tried-and-true suggestions and down-to-earth advice are wrapped in Church teaching and gorgeous images throughout the book that minister to the hearts of Catholic Moms,” said Donna-Marie Cooper O’Boyle, author of Embracing Motherhood and Catholic Wisdom for a Mother’s Heart. “It’s essential to encourage, equip and minister to moms who in turn raise their families in the faith. This book is a great help.”
The periodical is available for purchase on CatholicMomsGroup.com. DWAO also has made available a Mothers Group Starter Kit on its website, as well as a training program for prospective Mothers Group leaders.
Women who want to go even deeper may attend DWAO’s annual conference for Catholic moms, called Dynamic Women of Faith. The conference unites women for a day of worship, great speakers and fellowship to encourage ladies in their mission and faith.
