Philippines: Pope Appoints new Bishop of San Jose de Antique

Pope Francis on January 7, 2019, appointed as bishop of San Jose de Antique, Philippines, the Rev. Msgr. Marvyn A. Maceda, of the clergy of the diocese of Naval, currently director of the commission for the clergy in the same diocese.
Bishop-Elect Maceda was born in Bilaran, in the diocese of Naval, on February 11, 1969. Following high school and courses in philosophy at the Sacred Heart Seminary in Palo, Leyte, he studied theology at the San Jose Seminary, Loyola Heights, QC.
He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Naval on May 29, 1996.
During the years 1996 to 2000 he served as parish priest at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Mission and as diocesan director for youth; he also carried out the roles of bursar (1996-2007) and diocesan chancellor (1996-2010).
From 2000 to 2010 he was the priest in charge first at the Saint Roche Mission Chapel and then at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Mission Chapel in Naval, Biliran. In the meantime, he participated in the diocesan formation group of the Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC), of which he was the diocesan director from 2006 to 2010.
In the years 2010 to 2011, he took sabbatical leave at Our Lady of the Philippines Trappist Monastery, in San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.
Back in his diocese, from 2011 to 2017 he was moderator of the group of ordained ministers at the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception parish of Leyte, pastoral director of the diocesan BEC, member of the presbyteral council and of the council of consultors, and vicar general of the diocese of Naval.
From 2018 he served as director of the Clergy Commission of Naval.
