During the General Audience, over which Pope Francis presided on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, he encouraged Polish young people to bless their parents, as a gesture of love and gratitude.
On greeting the Poles from the Library of the Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father turned to the young people, who will be spiritually united to the Vigil of Prayer of the 24th “LEDNICA 2000” Meeting.
In fact, every year since 1997, on the first Saturday of June, tens of thousands of young people gather on the shores of lake Lednica, where the first King of Poland, Meszkio I, was baptized in 966. However, the current measures to fight the COVID-10 pandemic do not allow them to gather physically this year.
During this retransmitted event, stressed the Pope, young people will make “a courageous gesture”: “you will give a blessing to your parents. Do it as a humble gesture of filial love and gratitude for the gift of life and of the faith. I join you in prayer and I ask you: pray for me too.”
The Pontiff also invited them to thank God “for the gift of the Holy Spirit who animates their enthusiasm for the faith and makes them witnesses of the joy of all those that seek to live in the light of the resurrected Christ.”
“May Saint John Paul II, Patron Saint of these meetings, the centenary of whose birth we celebrate this year, accompany you,” he said. “Take up, in turn, his motto: ‘Totus tuus” and, like him, live your youth entrusting yourselves to Christ and to His Mother, to continue with daring toward the horizons of the future.”
