The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Petros Berga, of the clergy of the diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam, Netherlands, currently serving at the Metropolia sui iuris in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as Apostolic visitator for the Ethiopian faithful of the Alexandrian Ge’ez rite resident in Europe.

Reverend Fr. Petros Berga

The Rev.do Abba Petros Berga was born on 24 December 1967 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. After completing his studies in philosophy and theology at the Catholic University of Utrecht, Netherlands, he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam in 1998. Appointed parish priest of Saint Nicholas in Edam, he dedicated himself at the same time to the pastoral care of the Ethiopian faithful, bringing them together in communities. Following a collaboration agreement with the archdiocese of Addis Ababa, he returned to Ethiopia where he first served as secretary of the Episcopal Conference, and then as pastoral coordinator of the archdiocesan secretariat. He is engaged in various activities in the scientific field, has participated in several international conferences, and is the author of publications on Ethiopian monasticism, iconography, spirituality, and music. In addition to his native language, he speaks English and Italian.
