Pope Francis met with the President of Estonia, Ms. Kersti Kaljulaid, this morning, Nov. 28, 2019, in the Vatican.
According to a statement from the Holy See Press Office, the discussions took place «in a cordial atmosphere» and «satisfaction was expressed for the good state of relations between Estonia and the Holy See, recalling the Holy Father’s visit to Estonia in 2018, for the centenary of the country’s independence.»
«Subsequently,» it noted, «some issues of mutual interest were discussed, such as the role of education, social justice, and the protection of creation.»
In addition, a number of regional and international issues were addressed, including peace and security, multilateral efforts to prevent and resolve conflicts, with particular attention to the situation in Ukraine, and the challenges regarding the future of Europe.
The Estonian President subsequently met with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who was accompanied by Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
