Pope Francis has accepted an invitation of the Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi, to go to the Capitoline Hill on Tuesday, March 26, to meet with the Municipal Council, confirmed Alessandro Gisotti, Director ad interim of the Holy See Press Office, on Monday, February 18, 2019.
Capitolinus Mons
The Capitolinus Mons was the location of the religious and political center of the ancient Roman Republic. At present, it’s known by the Italian name “Campidoglio.” Michelangelo designed the Square where it is located.
At present, on the right and the left of the Capitoline Square are two twin buildings: the Capitoline Museums as well as the headquarters of the Municipality of Rome, which is at the back.
It was at the headquarters of the Municipality that, in 1957, the Treaties of Rome were signed, which created the European Economic Community and the European Atomic Energy Community. The Capitoline Museums house the Capitoline she-wolf.
