With the framework theme «Peace under construction: making decisions together for a new civilization», the Pontifical University of Salamanca-UPSA (Spain) will host the World Youth Parliament from July 28 to August 4, 2019. The event will bring together a hundred and twenty young representatives from 22 countries from America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. The promoter is the Idente Youth organization with the support of the Fernando Rielo Foundation and the UPSA.
How to live in and for peace? How to dialogue? How to make decisions in common? These are some of the questions that have guided the debates since 2017 of thousands of young people linked to this forum and that now has its world session. The World Youth Parliament (WYP) was conceived by Fernando Rielo in 1981 as a permanent forum for dialogue, where young people from all over the world, of different cultures and religions, elaborate proposals about crucial issues of human and social coexistence. A primary objective of the PUJ is the promotion of peace as a condition for a new civilization based on communion and fraternity.
The event will be officially inaugurated on Monday, July 29 in the Aula Magna of the Pontifical University of Salamanca with the interventions of the Vice-Rector of the UPSA, Fr. Jacinto Núñez Regodón, among other authorities. Previously there will be a reception of the parliamentarians on the part of the City council of Salamanca. This will be followed by formative sessions in which, among others, Fr. Raffaele Lanzilli, s.j. will intervene, of the Permanent Secretariat of the Synod, and participant in the recent Youth Synod.
Throughout the week, parliamentarians will participate in various commissions and plenary sessions, in which delegates will present each country’s proposal and will work together to synthesize and build a final manifesto. This will be presented at the general assembly on Saturday, August 3 at the UPSA. This manifesto will reflect the work of young people of 30 different nationalities.
Previous such events have been held in Rome (2009), the UN in New York (2010), Humboldt-Berlin University (2014) and Beijing (2017).
This is the fifth international with the collaboration of the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (Ecuador), the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (headquarters of Ibarra and Santo Domingo), Blanquerna-Universitat Ramón Llull, Universidad Católica de Murcia, and the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria.
