Addressing the theme "Orthodoxies and Heresies: The New Ireland and Its Sacred Cows" at the Merriman Summer School, the Dublin archbishop said there are now liberal and progressive fundamentalists, alongside the conservative and economic ones, the Irish Independent reported.

"Even the most secularized of these fundamentalists would love a crozier to wield in their cause," he added.

He also criticized the treatment of old people, fearing that the country may be simply warehousing them in large institutions.
