L´Osservatore Romano has had enough of political opinion polls.

In its Italian edition Thursday, the semiofficial Vatican newspaper appealed to political leaders to be more concerned with programs and less concerned with unreliable opinion polls.

The campaign for general elections is beginning in Italy, which pits the center-right of Silvio Berlusconi against center-left of Francesco Rutelli. The Italian press has been awash in opinion polls.

“It is a war that, given the clearly discordant numbers which are difficult to verify, runs the risk of making the electoral campaign even more confusing than it already is,” the Vatican newspaper stated.
