John Paul II said the Holocaust, suffered by the Jewish people during Hitler´s time, should not be forgotten, so that humanity will not stain itself again with such an «aberration.»

The Holy Father expressed this sentiment today when he greeted youths of Italian Catholic Action, who at the end of their meeting with the Pope, in a gesture of peace, released doves from the Pontiff´s library window.

On Saturday, several Catholic countries, including Italy, observed Remembrance Day, with which the Church hopes that «the horrors of the Shoah will not be forgotten,» the Pope said.

At the same time, it is a warning to avoid «every kind of human aberration, which stems from the rejection of dialogue between different cultures and religions,» the Holy Father added.
