VATICAN CITY, JULY 2, 2001 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II has chosen the motto «Without Forgiveness There Is No Peace» for the 35th World Day of Peace, next Jan. 1.

«The topic is in line of continuity with the message of the 1975 World Day of Peace (´Reconciliation, Way of Peace´) and with that of 1977 (´Offer Forgiveness, Receive Peace´), and evidences how, through forgiveness and reconciliation, the conditions are created that are necessary to foster peace,» a Vatican statement explained.

The statement lists some of the conditions the Holy Father says are necessary for peace: «sincere and constant dialogue for peace, acceptance of moral responsibility and recognition of human liberty, historical discernment, and, above all, respect for human dignity.»
