LONDON, SEPT. 17, 2001 (Zenit.org).- Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O´Connor has greeted the publication of a final report on the prevention of child abuse within the Church, and said that the bishops of England and Wales will discuss it at their Nov. 12-15 meeting in Leeds.

Lord Nolan´s independent Review on Child Protection published «A Program for Action» in the wake of scandals involving clergy.

«The First Report was considered by the bishops at our Low Week meeting and all the recommendations were unanimously accepted,» said Cardinal Murphy-O´Connor in a statement. «The Final Report, published today, is clearly a thorough and comprehensive document.»

The cardinal asked Lord Nolan to chair an independent panel last summer. After the panel´s First Report was published in April, the Catholic bishops agreed to implement its recommendations in full, and asked Archbishop Vincent Nichols of Birmingham to chair a team to do so.
