Pope Meets with Albanian Prime Minister

VATICAN CITY, NOV. 15, 2001 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II received in audience today Albanian Prime Minister Ilir Meta, his wife and an entourage of 10 people.

Meta has been prime minister since October 1999, following the destabilization of the country caused by Albanian refugees from Kosovo. The refugees were victims of the Slobodan Milosevic regime.

In Albania, the Catholic Church manages 60 charity and aid institutions. The country´s 3.5 million inhabitants include 575,000 Catholics.

Details of the audience were not immediately released.
