The award, conferred by the Dutch Sovereigns, recognizes her daily dedication to over 5,000 patients. The Dutch ambassador in Indonesia personally conferred the award on the Franciscan religious, on behalf of Queen Beatrix.

The Harapan Jaya Institute, established in 1981, cares for the handicapped with the help of a team of specialists, who pay special attention to the psychological care of patients.

The institute looks after 5,000 patients, some gratis. "This is possible thanks to local and foreign benefactors who maintain the foundation," the nun said during the award ceremony.

The institute periodically invites Dutch surgeons to operate on patients who have suffered serious traumas. The specialists are also responsible for the patient´s post-operative phase and rehabilitation.
