6 Beatifications Scheduled for Sunday

VATICAN CITY, APRIL 10, 2002 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II will beatify six people this Sunday, including a Nicaraguan religious sister who died in the 1970s.

That will bring to 1,288 the number of people beatified during this pontificate. The Holy Father has canonized 456, and will canonize five more May 19.

The servants of God who will be proclaimed blessed Sunday are Nicaraguan María Romero Meneses (1902-1977), a member of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (the Salesian Sisters); and Argentine María del Tránsito de Jesús Sacramentado (1821-1885), founder of the Congregation of Franciscan Missionary Tertiaries of Argentina.

The others include Italian priests Gaetano Errico (1791-1860), founder of the Congregation of Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary; Ludovico Pavoni (1784-1849), founder of the Congregation of the Sons of Mary Immaculate; and Luigi Variara (1875-1923), of the Society of St. Francis of Sales, founder of the Institute of the Holy Sons of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

Italian-Argentine religious Artemide Zatti (1880-1951) will also be beatified.
