Volunteers Sought for World Youth Day

TORONTO, APRIL 28, 2002 (Zenit.org).- Registration has opened for those wishing to volunteer for World Youth Day.

The WYD Center for the training of volunteers began its activities Friday in Toronto. Its aim is to prepare individuals who in turn will be responsible for others who help to organize the July 18-28 event.

Volunteers are needed for skills ranging from health care to answering telephone calls in various languages. Volunteers do not have to be Catholic.

Members of groups may volunteer together. Some groups that have registered include Scouts Canada, Girl Guides of Canada, the Knights of Columbus, Couples for Christ, employee associations, associations of retired people, schools, and school board staff.

Volunteers are needed for office and general help; computer systems and services; business/finance; construction and general labor; languages; performing arts; health care; hospitality; information center; security; spiritual ministry; and providing meals and lodging.

Registration is the volunteers´ instruction section at www.wyd2002.org. Those who cannot apply online, can download the application form and fax or mail a copy to the Volunteer Department.
