The new law, promulgated Thursday, will be in force in places "open to the public" and in "closed places of work." The ban also affects "extraterritorial" areas of Vatican City, that is, various buildings spread around Rome.

The norms only affect Vatican offices, as smoking in the museums and libraries has been prohibited for a long time. The new Vatican legislation does not provide places for smokers.
