Don Bosco's "Daughters" Re-elect Superior General

ROME, OCT. 30, 2002 (Zenit.org).- Mother Antonia Colombo, 67, has been confirmed for another six years as superior general of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.

The confirmation took place in the first round of voting during the 21st general chapter. The assembly attracted 192 participants from five continents.

Mother Antonia Colombo is the eighth superior general of the institute founded by St. John Bosco and St. Maria Domenica Mazzarello in 1872 in northern Italy.

Today it is present in 89 countries and has 15,703 religious who are devoted to the education of young people in schools, oratories and youth centers, places of mission, and areas where there are outcasts.

The superior general made her first profession in the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in 1959, in Contra di Missaglia.
