Author of Children's Bible Gets Pontifical Decoration

STUTTGART, Germany, MAY 26, 2004 (Zenit.org).- A German theologian whose books include a children’s Bible has received the Pontifical St. Sylvester decoration for her commitment to the Church and the faith.

Eleonore Beck, 78, won the honor last week. During the award ceremony, Bishop Gebhard Fürst of Rottenburg-Stuttgart praised Beck’s work, describing her as «the author of the worldwide-known Bible for children ‘God Speaks to His Children,’ published by Aid to the Church in Need.»

Aid to the Church in Need has distributed 40 million copies of the children’s Bible, in 141 languages. The first edition appeared in Spain in 1979.
