Human Embryo to Be Focus of Talks at Vatican

VATICAN CITY, SEPT. 13, 2005 (Zenit.org).- The 12th General Assembly of the Pontifical Academy for Life will meet next winter and discuss «The Human Embryo in the Pre-Implantation Phase: Scientific Aspects and Bioethical Considerations.»

The academy announced the theme of the Feb. 27-March 1 event that will gather specialists from various countries and disciplines at the Vatican.

Instituted by Pope John Paul II in 1994, the academy’s objectives are the study, information and formation on the principal problems of biomedicine and of law, relative to the promotion and defense of life.

The academy is linked to the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers and various other dicasteries of the Roman Curia.
