I wholeheartedly agree that the privacy of the traditional confessional is helpful to most. It also provides a protection for the priest. Priests also need to make themselves more readily available with scheduled confessions, not just by appointment.
But the sad reality remains that people are not going to confession. I have four different confession times, morning and evening, every Saturday, and most of that time is just spent in quiet prayer. We need to do more to restore the sense of sin, and personal responsibility.
