Confession in Demand

A response to: More Confessors, More Confessions

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a wonderful gift from Jesus Himself to the Church to make peace with God and with our fellow brothers and sisters. We as priests and as dispensers of God’s mercy and love in the sacramental forum, witness this incredible intervention of God and are humbled everyday to see this happen in our fellow parishioners.

In our parish of All Souls in South San Francisco, CA, God has blessed us. We have big lines for confessions; penitents line up around 3:30 p.m. on every Saturday for confessions which are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and end at 5 p.m. Penitents of all ages from those who made their first Holy Communion to whatever age.

How I wish to congratulate and commend their parents who teach their children young and go with them to receive the sacrament of reconciliation.

In addition to this, people call and make appointments during the week to seek time for confessions. Then there are people who show up before Mass and after Mass and seek to make their confessions!

How I wish we had more priests in our parish to attend to this need.

Rev. Agnel De Heredia
