VATICAN CITY, APRIL 16, 2010 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI appointed Cardinal Angelo Sodano, dean of the College of Cardinals, to represent him at the funeral of Polish President Lech Kaczynski.
The president and his wife, Maria, were killed along with 94 others in an April 10 plane crash in western Russia.
On Saturday, a national memorial service will be held in Warsaw, followed by a Mass at St. John’s Cathedral.
The state funeral will take place Sunday in Krakow.
The Pope will meanwhile be following his previously planned agenda, visiting the island nation of Malta on Saturday and Sunday.
